Evaluation of Chrysopogon Aciculatus (Ritz.) Trin. Seed for Sod Production in Ghana: An Assessment of Growth Performance and Post Harvest Quality

This study examined the growth and post-harvest quality of sod produced from C. aciculatus seed, a popular turfgrass in Ghana. Although viable readily available, seeds are not commonly used, its characteristics unknown. The experiment was conducted at College Agriculture Education, AAMUSTED, Mampong campus, using 3 x factorial Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications, wooden frame system. treatment factors were Fertilizer (10 t/ha chicken manure, 450 kg ha-1 Foliar fertilizer, No fertilizer) base netting (Rubber fiber net, Jute mat, net). Results showed that manure no net rubber interactions provided earliest days to seedling emergence. Chicken foliar-fertilized sods had significantly higher Clipping fresh dry weights. Higher tensile strength, lasting, handling recorded interaction as best performance all instances. In conclusion, seed can be used produce high-quality sod, it is recommended for commercial production treatments achieving optimal results production.
